Singer-songwriter David James takes his place amongst the ever-exciting world of emerging Glaswegian artists with this debut single, You Said You Loved Me. Having sat on this track for close to a year, he has decided now is the right time to introduce his sound to the world.
Having at some points doubted if this track would ever see the light of day, all the graft to get it out there is fully justified with what he has produced. With a brilliantly vibrant feel, You Said You Loved Me shimmers from the speakers with true indie-pop glamour. For a first release, David James has already found a way to produce a truly entrancing full sound which leaves you instantly feeling warmer inside after just a few seconds.
Having worked on this track for so long before finally sharing it, you can feel the passion and precision that has gone it to perfecting the song that would pull the curtain back on his talent. It excels in its melodic energy, but it never allows the great shining sounds which define it distract from the vocals, which still deservedly take centre stage. Its got a very pop-infused feel throughout it, but always stops short of becoming cheesy, and still feels like a very serious and polished piece of music.
Described as “a celebration of Scottish musicianship”, the single was written alongside Ross Leighton of Fatherson, Bruce Rintoul and his band mate Kieran, which goes someway to explaining how he has seemingly already achieved such a complete sound. If this track was suppose to showcase his ability, and the evergreen strength of Scottish songwriting, it is mission accomplished. I tremendous debut release, and many will be eagerly awaiting what is to come next.
