EMERGENCY BREAK

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM EMERGENCY BREAK – HOMETOWN

Emergency Break’s new single, Hometown, is out now. The London-based band channels a nostalgic mix of Britpop, post-punk, and indie rock energy that feels both familiar and fresh. Recorded at Camden’s Roundhouse Recording Studios, this track sees the lads refining their raw sound into something sharper, more polished, and undeniably infectious.

From the opening riff, Hometown grabs you by the collar with its driving guitar and rhythm section, reminiscent of Oasis’s swagger mixed with the youthful urgency of Arctic Monkeys’ early work. Leo Gerchen’s vocals, raw and emotive, weave a tale of longing for home while grappling with the changes life inevitably throws at you. The reflective lyrics strike a chord, particularly when paired with the song’s anthemic, almost defiant chorus. It’s the kind of track that begs to be shouted back at the band in a packed, sweaty venue.

This single feels like a step up from their previous work. Where tracks like Can You Feel It leaned heavily into grunge aesthetics but occasionally faltered under rough production, Hometown hits a sweet spot of grit and polish. The band’s decision to embrace a cleaner, more expansive sound pays off, allowing the melody and Gerchen’s poignant vocal delivery to shine. The addictive riff that underpins the track is a real highlight, one you’ll find humming long after the song’s three-and-a-half-minute runtime.

Overall, Hometown is a solid showcase of what Emergency Break does best: delivering high-energy, relatable indie rock with a Britpop twist. It’s easy to see why they’ve been packing out venues like The Camden Assembly and O2 Academy Islington. This track will undoubtedly further cement their reputation as ones to watch in the scene. If this is any indication of what’s to come, their live shows in 2025 should be unmissable
