“Left Me on Read” is the newest single from Glaswegian Soloist Emily Evans, Evans describes herself as “a heartbreak pop fanatic” saying she has developed her song-writing through pouring her heart out and feeding inspiration from personal events and made up concepts.
She draws inspiration from the likes of fellow Scot Lewis Capaldi, alongside Mimi Webb and Tate McRae, a relatively modern pop sound.
The beginning of the track is subtle but draws you in, the familiar pop-like sound you hear in the charts nowadays, and then the vocals punch right through, unexpectedly, a bit of a shock in all honesty, but what a voice!
Evans gives that soft emotional voice that you can tell has a lot of range and potential, which in my opinion, could give Olivia Rodrigo a run for her money.
Listening on, the backing track is simple, but uplifting, consistent and incredibly catchy, her voice is incredibly easy to listen to.
The lyrics are very relatable in today’s dating world, mentions of red flags, being left on read and sliding into DM’s are all the new normal (annoyingly) – but Emily has crafted it beautifully, despite it being a song about annoyance of the situation and the modern dating world in general, she’s put it together well and it doesn’t feel sad, almost gives a sense of power (girl power anyway!).
It’s the perfect length for this type of song, perfect for a streaming session or play on the radio, the only criticism I have is that the ending vocals felt a little bit abrupt, but not overly!
The artwork for this is spot on, attention to detail is brilliant with the contact as “The Ex” and almost a screenshot of a message (but better quality) and Emily placed to the left there – a solid choice for the track.
Overall, a fantastic track which really shows off Evans’ potential as a solo artist, if this track is anything to go by, I can see biiiiiig things for her.
