Northern Irish rock outfit Final Thirteen with this new track, Say Please Stay. Riding the wave of their debut single, Why You Sacrifice Me Now, they have backed up the positive response they received by producing another top quality tune here.
Again blending many elements into their sound, Say Please Stay infuses pop-punk vocals atop indie riffs, and as with their previous track has a real grunginess at the heart of it. There’s a deliberately unpolished finish to their sound, very evident here. Everything individually sounds brilliantly tight, but put together they create a different beast.
Everything is done to the max in their sound. Every single element, from the vocals, through the riffs down to the drums, is full blooded. Their biggest advantage is they have that wonderful rawness that comes with a new band still finding their sound and pumping heart and soul into every note and every syllable. There’s a real passion for what they’re producing that just hits you through the speakers, and it makes the whole thing infinitely better.
As you listen you find yourself naming bands which parts remind you of. Hints of Oasis, specifically Rock n Roll Star in some of the guitar. Placebo in some of the lyrics and melodies. In truth, though, although they might borrow snippets from them, they have blended it all into one pretty unique package. Just two tracks into their adventure, it already feels as though they are onto something special.
