Gemma Felicity’s latest single, “AM I TOXIC” is a pop anthem that dives deep into self-reflection and personal accountability. From the very first listen, I was immediately drawn in by the lush production, particularly the use of the vocoder voice layered over Gemma’s own vocals.
The lyrics hit hard and feel so relatable. Lines like “Take a good hard look at yourself / Realise that you have a choice / Are you attracting who you are” pull you in and make you think about your own experiences. The repeated question, “So am I toxic?” is such a clever way to explore those feelings of doubt and self-reflection we all have in relationships. It’s raw and honest, and I love that about it.
Gemma sums it up perfectly when she explains the story behind the song, “You find out another guy you are dating has a wife, and your therapist points out you could be the problem??”. It is -unfortunately- a relatable situation and she captures that messy reality of love so well. Her influences with artists like Holly Humberstone, Gracie Abrams, Lexi Jayde, and Julia Michaels shine through, but she definitely brings her unique style to the table.
Gemma is a talented singer-songwriter from London and you can really hear her growth in this track. After facing some health challenges, she turned to music for healing. With a Master’s in Music Performance and Songwriting, she definitely knows her stuff.
“AM I TOXIC” is part of her upcoming EP, ‘Baggage’, which is all about how our past shapes our present relationships. I can’t wait to hear what else she has in store for us with the rest of the songs.
This track is perfect for anyone who’s ever questioned their role in a relationship or is just looking to vibe along!
