Guest In The Car return with their fourth single, This Is How. Another brilliantly soft and mesmeric release from the London band, it continues to build on their already tested formula of mixing haunting melodies with wonderfully gripping vocals.
Their alt-rock and shoegaze roots shine through brightly in this latest track. They really allow their songwriting prowess to take centre stage with this one, with minimal elements distracting from where their real talents lie, the composition, and the vocals.
For much of This Is How, it relies solely on a simple guitar riff as its instrumental, creating quite the sombre mood. As it progresses though it does build, notably once it is joined in the latter stages by some enchanting little piano, giving it a much more powerful and anthemic feel as it reaches it crescendo.
Since July of last year they have steadily released tracks, with this being their fourth. That relatively pedestrian output, focussing on perfecting their sound rather than hammering out tune after tune, has paid serious dividends for them so far, showcased most profoundly here. Each of their tracks strives for perfection, and seemingly with each track they are getting a little closer each time. This is a wonderful single, and one that fills you with excitement for what is to come next.
