Country artist Henry Ray continues to build up for this upcoming EP with this latest single, Chasing The Sun. Having gained some recognition for his 2024 EP This Old Thing, this track sees him developing his sound, giving it a greater depth, but also retaining the traditionalism which sets him aside from many of his peers. With roots in New Mexico but now based in the UK, he takes his Americana sound and combines it with a more rock sound to bring it perfectly into the 21st century.
Both the vocals and the riffs build to crescendo repeatedly throughout Chasing The Sun, something we have seen him do before wonderfully. He seems to be able to move between that traditional country sound into power ballad mode and back again with ease, always keeping his tracks interesting. It’s from this that he gets real power and energy in his music which drags it away from being just a rehashing of a well-trodden path and makes it stand out on its own merit.
As with any good country artist though, his real talents are held in his storytelling. We already knew his abilities as a wordsmith from his previous releases, and he is certainly not letting it slip here. Again, it is that mixture of Americana with the modern, of the poetic with the everyday that gives his sound such a relatable edge, and his sound is infinitely richer for it.
Chasing The Sun is track which follows the formula we have come to expect from Henry Ray, and does it to the highest standards, with the most impressive results. This in an artist who knows his sound inside and out, and has no desire to meddle too much with it, but instead he is honing and perfecting it. With this single, it’s the closest we have seen yet to being fully perfected.
