“Forgive Me” is a new addition to London-based artist HMyna (pronounced H-Minor), originally of French/Brazilian background, and a follow on from the previous single ‘Keep Making Me Weaker’.
When the song kicked in, it sounded like it came straight off a sultry perfume advert, that’s not a bad thing, the music MAKES the adverts.
It’s got a beautiful piano backing track that compliments the sweet vocals, that cross the boundaries of multiple genres, Soul, RnB and Funk are a few that spring to mind.
HMyna says that their influence comes from a lot of different cultures, having spent her childhood travelling around different countries, soaking up different styles, which is evident in this single.
The vocals are beautiful and soulful, reminding me of a mix of Little Simz, Alicia Keys and even a tiny bit of Lana Del Ray, HMyna has an impressive range and I imagine her vocals would work really well not just on a the more mellow of tracks like this, but also a more upbeat RnB too.
Listening intently, the lyrics told a story, of love, emotion and a sense of belonging, where HMyna bares her soul with unlimited honesty in the most beautiful way.
HMnya says: “‘Forgive me’ is about asking for forgiveness for who I’ve been at times when my head was fighting my heart.
“I share a side of me no one has ever seen before, It’s out of my comfort zone but perfectly in it all at once.”
A mention should also go to the producer, Jake Wherry, his music has appeared in movies like Snatch, Taxi and recently the Netflix series “The Gentlemen”, so you’re likely to have heard his work without noticing.
With a stunning mixture of powerful vocals, boundary-pushing genres and a beautiful backing track, this is a must-listen for all.
It’s the perfect song for multiple occasions, whether you’re feeling emotional, trying to relax or just going about your day, it suits a lot of different moods.
