HOLY COVES - FALLING DOWN

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM HOLY COVES – FALLING DOWN

A first release since their critically acclaimed 2022 album ‘Druids and Bards’, Holy Coves are back in business and ‘Falling Down’ is their stamp of re-entry.

Hailing from Anglesey, North Wales and familiar with sold-out crowds across the UK, their hope for ‘Falling Down’ was undoubtedly to kick on from previous successes, and well, they might’ve just done that.

Introduced by loud, gritty guitar sounds, the direction of this track is established off the bat, building into a groovy full-band instrumental and later the vocals of Scott Marsden. Sitting pretty with a perfect balance of groove and grit, ‘Falling Down’ sounds so familiar but so distant, creating a sound capable of thriving in both festival fields and video game soundtracks alike.

The second half sees the intensity drop and further reiterates the festival-ready qualities of the track, inviting a slow-build singalong before exploding into the final chorus and bringing things to a close with great vehemence.

‘Falling Down’ manages to hook you from start to finish, reeling you in with the groove and capturing you with it’s chorus, however it struggles to initiate any thoughts and shows little signs of being a standout.

A strong return for Holy Coves, just a little short of being something special.
