WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM HOWARTH – I NEED YOU

After a four-year hiatus from releasing music, Sheffield singer-songwriter Howarth returns to the spotlight with a brand new single.

The track is titled I Need You, and it’s a stunningly vulnerable love ballad wrapped in optimistic soft rock. It begins with a staccato guitar uttering atop hearty drums that roll into the verse, where Howarth’s vocals begin to tell the story. His voice is raspy and soulful, accented by a nice vibrato that emphasises the passion in his words.

After a short pre-chorus, the unceasing guitar line grows, reaching a peak in the chorus. Everything lifts, from catchy vocal hooks to guitar riffs in a shimmering clean tone. The lyrics are a little hard to pick out amongst the arrangement, but the important ones cut above: I need you/more than you know/so don’t go.

The melodic bassline becomes more prominent in the second verse where the depth of this tune really comes through. Howarth’s layered vocals dance as the instrumentation develops, continuing to rise in dynamics for an impactful final chorus. I Need You ends on a full circle moment as the guitar and drums reflect the intro to fade out.

It’s clear that this new song from Howarth comes from a deeply meaningful place, as he communicates his feelings with such intention. And, after such a long break, it’s great to see that his musical spark is still intact.
