We review the new single from HVIRESS – Golden Apple

It’s hard to put into words an explanation for this track. It’s spiritual yet menacing, intimidating but enticing, it’s the new single ‘Golden Apple’ from Brighton duo HVIRESS (pronounced heiress).

The song is a twist of instrumental intrigue. I could only describe it as an electronic orchestral confusion supported by an action movie drum beat. Whilst the introduction of ominous angelic vocals may seem threatening, I urge you to listen through because the musicality is something you will want to digest. It certainly isn’t something you’ll feel you’ve heard a million times before.

Matching the sinister, unsettling tone comes a music video from the duo, produced with the assistance of Scott Chalmers.

This sees the duo ‘adorned in sickly pink and fuzzy outfits, pillow fighting and feasting on marshmallows in a cloud-world of pastel colour’, which is seriously not an exaggeration of events. The video very much lives up to the song, leaving no doubt about whether the pair are aiming to spook you out.

They describe their music as something for ‘the discerning listener’. It’s a song that will spark interest in many, but if it doesn’t then don’t take this comment to heart because it doesn’t mean you’re not discerning. It probably just means it’s not your cup of tea.

If you want to find out for yourself then give ‘Golden Apple’ a listen down below, and let us know what you think!
