Disco-funk, indie-rock band Inego return with their signature blend with their new single Caught On You. The Manchester band’s latest track was released as part of their upcoming 2nd album ‘Arrivals’. Inspired by the likes of Daft Punk and one of my favourite bands of all time, Talking Heads, it’s no surprise that the single is an undeniably dance-worthy banger!
Ladled in funk from the get-go, the track opens on a bed of super-smooth basslines, quickly joined by warm, groovy guitar melodies. Contrasting the high-energy instrumentals, the lead vocals jump in, bringing a smooth and steady quality to the upbeat sound.
For me, the glue of the song is the low, rolling bassline, which threads this infectious pulse throughout. Less showy than the guitars or synths, it locks into place the groove of the tune.
As we approach the end of the track, Inego enter this wonderful psychedelic territory as the track peaks, breaking down into space-like spiralling sounds from masterful synths and guitar distortions. This synth breakdown is my absolute favourite moment of the track; I’m always gravitating towards anything glitchy or twinkling. Here, it distinguishes itself with an awesome, cosmic-comboy energy. It gives the vibe of a late-night drive through a desert beneath a sea of stars.
All in all, Inego’s ‘Caught On You’ is a groove-central track that I’m certain would be a major energy booster live. With a personal affinity for all things funky and space-like, I rate this tune highly- I hope the upcoming album follows in a similar vein- super excited to hear it either way!
