Liverpool alt-rockers effortlessly blend overdriven guitars with epic pop-influenced synth lines. Their sound draws down on classic influences of the genre; Weezer, Linkin Park, and Blink-182. However don’t kid yourself in thinking this is another cliche rock band. From Inside bring in modern influences through their pop synth lines and catchy melodies.
The band have recently undergone a change in personnel – with new vocalist Zaid Elgahmi being introduced with their most recent single ‘The Right One’. Zaid brings a new vocal flair to the band’s already solid sound.
The ballad gets off to a gentle start, almost isolated vocals that let the warmth of Zaid’s vocals shine through. Frenzied energetic synths and guitars quickly take over, bringing up the tempo before breaking down for the first verse. The bands dynamic control of the song’s structure is a real highlight of the song. From Inside constantly keep the listener guessing, refusing to follow a simple formulaic structure. Having said that, they still deliver a killer chorus, fulfilling that radio must-have.
Chugging guitars in the pre-chorus are reminiscent of You Me At Six or Blink-182, contextualising the song within the genre. Vocals eventually give way to a guitar solo that rips through the mix. At the same time the drums are able to come to the fore for a brief moment, before fading back to support the growing energy of the song.
‘Say The Word’ is beautifully mixed – each instrument is given its own space and there’s no sense of overcrowding. It’s a common error that From Inside are able to avoid with the maturity they display towards songwriting and production.
This is a well balanced and powerful song, that is sure to follow in the footsteps of their past singles. Having already been featured on BBC Radio 1 and Kerrang, the future looks bright for From Inside.
