WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM ISSY SUTCLIFFE

‘Especially Not In My Barbie Bed’ is the newest single from Manchester’s own Issy Sutcliffe.

Issy herself describes the tune as:

“Especially not in my Barbie Bed” is a love song about when you cannot stop thinking about someone but you are in complete denial. This song was inspired by the song “I’m Not in Love” by 10 cc, which was actually recorded in Stockport.”

Something very relatable in modern dating these days, it’s refreshing to see it channeled into a creative output like this.

Anyway, onto the actual song review…

The first thing that got me is Issy’s incredible vocal range! It has ballad potential and the range is insane.

I was instantly hooked by the tone of the vocals and just when I was settled, Issy jumps it up a notch with a rockier backing track and just keeps going and going!

The lyrics are expressive, raw and emotional, something that most 20-somethings and beyond could relate to.

I imagine if this was a modern day diary entry about the guy you’re in love with, this would be it.

Issy says:

“I wrote this about wanting someone I couldn’t have. I thought I’m gonna make something good out of how bad I feel.”

The sound reminds me a little bit of The Cranberries ‘ Zombie’ but with Issy’s own unique twist.

I honestly wanted it to go on for a bit longer, that’s my only criticism.

I’m really interested to see what Issy comes up with next!
