Salford singer-songwriter Jace Campbell shows off his heartfelt side with this stripped back new single, Nicotine. No stranger to regular RGM readers who have seen us track his releases over the past couple of years, there is something very different and personal about this latest track.
Leaning on the same core elements that have bought him this far, we once again see Campbell bringing a gritty indie sound, atop of which he crafts his magnificent storytelling. It is another piece quite clearly pours from his heart, further solidifying the view among his fans that he is one of the most exciting new songwriters coming out of the North-West today.
Where Nicotine differs from what we’ve heard from Campbell previously is the decision to strip away some of noise to focus more directly on the emotion he can portray so brilliantly. Lyrically and vocally it is his bravest release to date, and that bravery has definitely paid off. The passion he gets across so well in this piece makes it more gripping, and it feels much more personal than anything that proceeds it.
He may have been worried about losing some of the energy that the big riffs in this previous singles have bought, but the sound he has created here feels much more natural for him. He is a fantastic songwriter with an instantly memorable voice, and he has found a way to showcase that at its best. This may well be the start of a new and very exciting chapter on his journey to stardom.
