Following successful releases dating back to 2021, including an EP and a Christmas single, Salford’s own Jace Campbell brings us his latest offering “Pep Talk”.
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the track wastes no time in getting started, with an indie-esque guitar riff kicking off the track immediately, shows that there is no time for waiting around here!
Jace’s vocals shortly follow and they are sharp, punching through the instrumental with power, and he has an incredibly impressive voice.
Nowadays, anyone and everyone can release a track and label it as “Indie” but this track has a certain charisma about it, it has all the indie elements, even an injection of pop, but not too much.
The lyrics are relatable and easy to pick-up and all the ingredients so far have the potential to build on for a modern-day indie anthem.
The track is incredibly well balanced and all the elements work really well together, there are a few twists and surprises on the way too, but they happen very subtly! Like so, towards the end of the track, it slows right down and you can hear a voice with the quote “The saddest thing in life is wasted talent.” – which I believe is Robert De Niro’s character in “A Bronx Tale”, that was a VERY nice touch and pulled the whole thing together.
It does kick back up a notch after that, but only briefly as the song soon comes to an end after, it’s soft and fades out beautifully.
The artwork is also to be admired, it’s simple, a black and white photo with the sun blaring into the camera, with the backdrop of what I believe to be Salford Quays, which if so, nice hometown touch!
To round-up, a brilliantly crafted track, with lots of simple elements brought together to bring out the best in Jace’s vocals, for a 21-year-old, he’s got a cracking voice, with plenty to admire, I look forward to his next release.
