From the enriching lands of Perpignan, France Jeff ‘The Fish’ Lefroy returns with a juicy mix of soul, blues, and funk in his latest track, Mine.
Taking a big influence from Americana blues, a genre dominated by the likes of Hootie & The Blowfish and Blues Traveller in the 90s, Lefroy’s band mash together harmonica, organ, gritty guitars, and sweet melodic vocals.
From the get-go, Mine is a track full of high energy with the guitars pitched with crunching Southern American tones and allowing the drums to gallop over them. It’s a track that moves with intention. The guitars are given their time to shine with a raunchy solo that breaks up constantly not allowing the listener to know when or where it will end.
Lefroy’s vocals certainly don’t feature that expected southern drawl in this genre, they’re much more clear and concise, but those warming tones fit as a quaint juxtaposition with the other instruments.
Just as Mine bows off stage, the organ bursts onto the scene with an exciting solo that could go on for five seconds or five minutes.
The overall track has a nostalgic flare of the 90s hard rock scene with production and instrumental variety that displays how much work can really go into a song. Lefroy appears like an artist that makes things work and there’s always room for something more without it becoming overkill.
The chorus is slick and soothing, and the guitars are big and grooving, Jeff ‘The Fish’ Lefroy has certainly hooked this writer’s attention and I look forward to diving into his other catchy tracks.
