JEFF LEFROY

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM JEFF ‘THE FISH’ LEFROY

French based Irish artist Jeff ‘The Fish’ Lefroy treats us to a wonderfully contemporary take on the blues with this new single, We Got To Work It Out. A brilliantly unique track drawing in from an increasing eclectic mix of influences, he infuses classic a classic blues sound with modern melodies to create a sound which is as dance educing as it is nostalgic.

The artists he lists as having influenced him range from pop-rock to country, and that’s reflected quite full on as soon as you hear this tune. The underlying rhythm which runs throughout it has a real Northern Soul vibe to it. The riffs which light up the song so beautifully are pure blues.

The vocals have far more of a country feel to them. He refused to conform to any one genre all the way through this, and the result is something exponentially more interesting than if he did.

As with all true blues tracks it is inspired by personal experience. At its core this is a critique of what he sees around him. A tale of using music to combat sleepless nights in times of ever present worry, it offers a simple but powerful realisation in the form of its title, “We got to work it out”. It may not be the most mapped out solution to how we make everything rosy again, but one things undeniable, it’s a factual observation.

As much as we’d love to hear an album from him, he has outlined his plan to instead release a new single every sic week. By that he doesn’t mean just for a few months either, but for the whole of 2025. For the foreseeable future then, we’re going to be drip fed on these little nuggets of genius, and with Lefroy, each one is going to keep us guessing, and be different from the last.
