John Denton’s new single, ‘Reality’ could instantly lift the mood and liven up an atmosphere with its bouncy, jangly sound and for that alone, this is one that you don’t want to skip over. It’s not his first release of the year, the artist instead making quite the collection of tracks to add to his name. And his latest is a great addition.
The most noticeable aspect of ‘Reality’ is that it’s got a real 90’s britpop, madchester vibe to the whole track, a tried and tested formula that is proven to just work. The retro feel of it and throwback to that time is something that we all love, and gives a nod to the bands of yesteryear who have paved the way for the newest batch of musicians like John Denton. Though it’s nothing unfamiliar, to make it sound good is another thing altogether, and this young artist has nailed it.
The vocals are nonchalant, a really effortless casualness to them which is a contrast to the amount of energy thrown behind the instrumentation. It’s a great sound paired together and the guitar solo in the middle breaks the track up to really highlight that aforementioned jangly styling that screams pure indie pop rock.
Despite being of average length, the track flies by due mainly to the good vibes and the catchy nature. The ending gives something unique, as the track fades out with its series of random isolated notes that make it feel like the end of a jam session, maybe to give the whole track an improvised feel. Again, this gives it an edge of casualness, to match the vocals. Nothing overly fancy, just a solid track that though doesn’t boast anything epic, is full of talent and the promise of someone who will continue to excel.
