Jonny Blade is hitting fans with another dose of pure tunage, this time with single, Lad Leathered. Ready to add another song to your summer playlist? Good. Because this one will be on repeat and living rent free in your head for months.
The song is about Jonny’s own experience at Leeds festival and the beginning sounds as though he has come straight from a stage, with cheering leading the track in. It’s pretty guitar driven, his signature instrument making a prominent appearance in an acoustic styling, or at least easily transferable into being acoustic. It’s a simple instrumentation that is brought to life with Jonny’s character.
It starts off giving you the impression that it will be slow but launches into lively, jaunty territory. This really suits the vibe and lyrics of the song, which is a bit of cheeky chappy anthem. You can easily pinpoint the part of the country he is from, the regional accent shining through in an authentic and charming way.
It’s not long before Jonny gives a shout out to fellow Northern indie rockers, The Reytons, which we love to hear. He almost shouts the last chorus referencing The Reytons, as though he’s exasperated trying to place who wrote the lyric: ‘He’s all alone and his head’s reyt sore.’ Later on he references The Rosadocs as well, as we find out it was actually their lyric (which indie lovers probably already knew!) Jonny Blade really dives into the current music scene, in what almost feels like a novelty way, but without being cringey. The ideal balance.
It’s a song about a music festival, perfect for a music festival. The constant beat keeps you engaged and grooving. It’s catchy, it’s upbeat, it’s feel good and it could easily get you out of a bad mood. Picture yourself dancing about in a field, relating to the lyrics of drunken escapades. In short, Lad Leathered is pure perfection.
