Leicestershire soloist Kath Moskvina is once again bringing us her alluring tones in this new track, The Still Of The Night. We have heard a variety of sounds in her previous released, but here she has somewhat purposefully held back a little, bringing all the attention back round to her vocals and lyrics, and they more than stand up to the test.
As has become her trademark, Moskvina draws on her filmmaker roots to create a wonderfully cinematic sound. The battle between her powerful vocals and the rising tones of the instruments become more and more poignant as the track builds, becoming fuller and fuller as it builds to crescendo.
There’s a real dramatic feeling which penetrates through the music, more so than in her previous efforts. As always, we see her fusing elements from different genres together, but even more so than ever here it is difficult to place it into anything in particular. The way it refuses to relent, and continuously strikes up more and more vivid imagery almost make it reminiscent of a Bond theme, perhaps another nod to Moskvina’s passive for image as well as sound.
It would be wrong to call The Still Of The Night her true masterpiece. Instead, the true mastery of her art is found in the collection of her releases. The ability to tweak and change, to create music which is so clearly hers yet each piece be so true to itself and not a parody of something she had already offered. If any confirmation was needed of her talent though, it can certainly be found here.
