4-piece Liverpool band Knowones have just released their new singles Futuresong and Before It’s Gone. They’re both very different from each. One being a soft-rock tune and will most definitely get you dancing and the other having elements of the 80s post-punk genre.
With this band it’s like we’ve been transported through time back to the 60s. You can hear quite a Beastles-esque take on Futuresong, it definitely reminded me of Love Me Do in some places which is brilliant. The band have most definitely put a modern twist on soft-rock with this track and made it their own.
Futuresong starts with a drum beat almost counting the rest of the band in, firing a funky guitar to start playing as well as bass. After 15 seconds of this, the vocals kick in leaving no time to go unheard. The vocals suit this track so much. They are the right tempo, range, and suit the rhythm of the song outright perfectly. This track is super catchy and fits the rock genre greatly, it’s as if the band slot in to the rock world like a long lost piece of a jigsaw puzzle.
The lyrics talk about new sensations and people yearning for something new as well as naming BBC radio stations. I can only assume the song is about highlighting important issues in the world, or even having new music on these stations that highlight these important issues in the world. I think it’s great that this band have created a track kind of calling the BBC out in a subtle way to expose truths in a musical way.
With Before It’s Gone being so different, you can’t really put this band into a category, they are certainly creative and don’t want to stick to one genre, making them so likeable.
Before It’s Gone is much slower than Futuresong. It definitely reminds me of some iconic 80s bands such as Tears For Fears, Echo and The Bunnymen, The Smiths, David Bowie etc. It starts with drums which almost instantly bring the vocals in as well as the guitar which has some effects on that you hear in indie songs. It’s definitely quite a different vibe to the first track.
This 4 minute track does not get boring or dull. It definitely gets you thinking about your life and reminds you bad days pass. The band have done a brilliant job with this message! This song is great overall, it’s more of a sit down and listen to track than get up and dance which is great. I would highly recommend listening to both tracks thoroughly as they both have positive messages within them!
