Amsterdam’s Lemon hit the midpoint of their #Lemon12 project with their sixth single of 2025, Power.
A rebellious critique of authority, its lyrics explore in inherent corruption of morals when presented with power. An ultra-atmospheric piece, the eerie, repeated vocals give it a brilliantly psychedelic feel.
The spacious lulls which allow the vocals to peer through, contrasted against the cutting riffs which come and go throughout create a real feeling of conflict. The soft, almost defeated sound of the verses repeatedly launches back into those combative riffs with powerful defiance. “Don’t close your eyes. Don’t buy their lies” is the unrelenting closing cry as they refuse to lie down to the seemingly inevitable pull of power.
Power represents the peak of Lemon’s songwriting to date. The way they manage to conjure up such imagery and feeling with so few elements is testament to the real skill of their compositional ability. With few lyrics and a fluctuating instrumental pattern that somehow manage to portray so compellingly an Orwellian battle between the corrupt authority and a will to resist it.
As the first half of this project reaches its conclusion it continues to lure is in more and more as it gains real traction. We are enthralled to see what number seven will offer.
