We review the new single from Leopard Rays – Carried Away

Leopard Rays present their latest single ‘Carried Away’ – a bittersweet anthem about breaking up and breaking free.

Following on from some strong releases last year including single ‘Need You’ and the debut EP ‘Times A Factor, Kid’, the Hartlepool band certainly utilised these weird pandemic times busy writing, demoing and recording – with ‘Carried Away’ being the first offering from that process.

Running at a little over three minutes in length, the track stands out from their previous work whilst still retaining that alt-rock/pop flavoured sound. Blending intricate guitar riffs and yearning vocals, bright melodies are mixed with melancholic lyricism to create a poignant number which has us faced with bad luck and broken hearts.. “I’m out of luck / I’ll never make it”

Despite the pain, there’s still a glimmer of hope – particularly with a rousing chorus of “Ooh’s” from the band sure to cue audience participation from any gig crowd. The punchy motorik guitar riff which kicks around the two minute mark also has us transfixed.

Carried Away‘ may be their first release of 2021, but Leopard Rays really have us gripped to hear their next move. Watch this space.
