WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM LIAM GALLAGHER AND JOHN SQUIRE – MARS TO LIVERPOOL

Barely a few weeks after they welcomed in the new year with their debut collaboration ‘Just Another Rainbow’, the iconic duo of Liam Gallagher and John Squire are back with their second single ‘Mars To Liverpool’.

Whereas ‘Just Another Rainbow’ started wonderfully with its superb guitar riff (nobody mention the track Changin’ Wind by Standin’ Man… a band Liam and ‘Roses fans are sure to love ) before going off on a bit of a cringe-fest, well, this time thankfully the duo have delivered.

‘Mars to Liverpool’ is a joyous strut. Three minutes and forty seconds of delight. The unmistakable sound of John Squire leads us into Liam’s opening line.. and what an opening line….‘Jesus Christ… about last night I can only apologise…..’. That playful humour in Squire’s writing is all too often overlooked, but here it is, in all its glory setting the stall right from the off.

The track struts on. Squire’s subtle, often Santana’esque guitar riffs throughout the track perfectly complimenting Liam’s divine vocals. In true Squire style, as with all of his finest moments with The Stone Roses, the chorus is uplifting, catchy, almost euphoric.

Without any doubt, detractors will point reference to ‘Revolver’, always to be the blueprint for a myriad of floppy-haired jangly ‘kids’, but let’s be honest, could anyone else make it sound this good, this fresh, this anthemic?

The release of ‘Mars to Liverpool’ was accompanied with details of the hotly anticipated joint album, ’Liam Gallagher and John Squire’ to be released on the 1st of March. The album will be accompanied by a short thirteen-date tour which sees Liam and John joined by ‘Little’ Barrie Cadogan on bass and Joey Warner on drums. Jake Bugg has been announced as special guest for all shows except the US.

Anyone who pre-orders the album from the Gallagher Squire WEBSITE will receive early access to tickets.
