LOST TRENDS

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM LOST TRENDS – INTEREST FREE

Yorkshire’s Lost Trends return with this combative new single, Interest Free. A social commentary on the insurmountable gap between those with and without power, this track seems times perfectly to slot in with the state of our country, and seemingly the western world in general.

Known for infusing different influences into their music, Interest Free see’s them add in some Hip Hop in vibes with their longstanding indie funk sound. Ready made to give this politically charged piece an even more urban edge, this change from their norm works perfectly with their existing elements.

A first release since 2025s Takedown, it seems like since then they have been experimenting a little more with their sound. Although they never stand still with their music for too long anyway, this track feels like the biggest departure from their comfort zone we have heard so far. The fact that it still comes off is only further evidence of their abilities to keep growing and getting better and better as they do.

Lost Trends are not a band scared to speak their minds, but even for them this feels like a very in-your-face release. Referencing Harrow, supertax and food banks, this is lyrically their most powerful, and most relevant track to date. Where it succeeds so well though is it finds the special gap which even the most seasoned songwriters struggle to find; It is relevant and thought provoking, without falling into feeling preachy.

Interest Free is the bravest release from Lost Trends so far. It’s a track which shows a greater maturity both in their music and lyrics than we have seen from them in their previous releases. They have taken a leap towards a more confrontational sound, and with it seem to have found what is a natural place for their music to flourish. A brilliant new direction, and hopefully one they will continue to pursue.
