MAC WOOD - DON'T MIND MY CHATTER

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM MAC WOOD – DON’T MIND MY CHATTER

Young musical talent is rising through the ranks again, and the evidence is right there in Mac Wood’s latest single, ‘Don’t Mind My Chatter’. Following on from a cracking debut single release not too long ago, this track had big shoes to fill, but as far as follow ups go, this one is brilliant.

The first factor you may notice is that the song has an early to mid 2000’s vibe. It’s quite similar to someone like Maximo Park or for a really specific comparison, the drums are really akin to something Bloc Party may have on their discography. It uses that timeless indie sound and formula and it’s a sound that works so well, this track not being an exception to the rule.

There’s a bit of a distorted, murky sound quality. It’s not crispy, like most songs of today, instantly giving it that nostalgic, more vintage indie feel. Everything sounds a bit distant to the point where the vocals almost merge with the instrumentals in a beautiful blend. It really proves how well everything works together on the track.

It’s got a classic, longish intro, which gives the song a chance to build up and breath before it really gets moving as soon as those vocals hit. The catchy guitar motif we hear features prominently between choruses and verses but is also a constant in the background. It’s a great hook that keeps you nodding your head throughout, appreciating the track for all it is.

The vocals are on the cusp of shouty, maybe just very passionate, with what sounds like an echo effort or reverb over the top. The title of the song is not actually mentioned, but perhaps more of an instruction, Don’t Mind My Chatter, as Mac Wood launches into a musical soliloquy. The lyrics do feel as though they are sung with impact, particularly when he drops a casual swear word in the second verse that really holds a lot of bite.

There’s heavy emphasis on the drums before the final chorus that means that every aspect within the song gets its moment to shine. Deservingly so as well. Everything sounds great, especially together, making this track easy to listen to and incredibly easy to get stuck inside your head.

With two singles under his belt, surely Mac Wood is now on a roll. Bring on the next track, because this is a man who is capable of many great things in the music industry. Can’t wait to see what he does next.
