WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM MADDY CARTY

‘Little One’ is the new single on the EP ‘Otherhood’ from London-based solo artist Maddy Carty.

What strikes me about Maddy’s voice is it’s full of soul and passion, and her already impressive song collection shows off her fantastic vocal range.

‘Little One’ however, provides a very soft, sophisticated piano backing track, it makes for an incredibly relaxing song; which eases you into the soft vocals by Maddy.

From listening to the track, the lyrics appear to tell the story of an expectant mother, ready to welcome a newborn, which Maddy confirms:

“I started writing this song when I was pregnant and only really finished it once my son was born, so it feels like it’s between two worlds for me, the before and after.

I think a lot of people will be able to relate to the feelings of super-high excitement mixed with absolute terror at times! We’re all just doing our best”

Parenting is understandably daunting, but it made me wonder if this was brought together by personal experiences and focusing on the excitement, it feels very personal.

The mood of the lyrics matches the piano backing track perfectly.

The tone of the song is consistent, even when extra elements like backing vocals come in towards the end, something in my opinion which isn’t easy to get right for this genre.

It’s a simple, but beautiful track, an easy listen, which would be the perfect addition to a relaxing playlist.

‘Little One’ adds to Maddy’s already impressive song catalogue, if you like soft tunes with an injection of folk, this might be up your street.
