TIGERSIDE

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM MANCHESTER RAVERS TIGERSIDE

Right from the very start ‘Projection’ by Manchester’s Tigerside continues where 2021 debut ‘Any Contact’ left off.

There’s stonking synth riffs, infectious breathy vocal hooks, and great melodies but whilst the listener is constantly waiting for and expecting that ultimate lift-off, you know the one where you dance on the kitchen table, arms in the air knocking your ceiling lights everywhere….well, sadly it just doesn’t happen.

The track stomps and grooves wonderfully along with the kind of squelchy synths and bouncing bassline that will delight both the original warehouse generation and their kids who’ve grown up to a soundtrack of Gerald Simpson, Paris Angels, 808 State and the rest of the gang. It all sounds dreamy, sun kissed and very baggy Manchester, slowly building the promise… ‘waiting for the light……’ but just doesn’t quite get us there.

A superb piano riff after the second chorus could have taken us into a massive ‘old skool’ piano break and then on into eternity, especially with the wonderful female vocal that kicks in but sadly it all just seems a little too restrained.

This is entirely subjective of course and everyone does hear things differently, right? But I do feel a sparser, more open mix would have made this track the absolute banger it should have been. I’ve no doubt when the band plays this live it goes off enormously!

Fingers crossed there are some alternative mixes that really do this track the justice it deserves.
