Heavy Salad Press Shot January 2024

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM MANCHESTER’S HEAVY SALAD

Manchester’s Heavy Salad are back and more chilled than ever with their new tune ‘Weirdest of the Weird Shit’ and it’s simply delightful.

It’s easy to see why this now expanded seven-piece outfit from Manchester are garnering adoration from the ‘in the know’ media. Whilst their infectious blend of funk, electro-pop and sixties psychedelia may be nothing new, in the current music scene it really does stand them apart, or at least, as with previous releases, ‘Joggers from Mossley to Malibu..’ and last year’s ‘Temporary Visionary’ the sheer quality of the track does.

Whilst 2020’s debut release ‘Cult Casual’ was an out-and-out garage rocker, it’s pleasing to see Heavy Salad continue with their progression into the realms of a more exultant, altogether sun-kissed lounging sound and ‘Weirdest of the Weird Shit’ is certainly sun-kissed.

The track is a blissful delight of an earworm. All luscious shimmery guitars, lyrical bass lines and enrapturing vocal harmonies. ‘I’m feelin’ so tropical…’ is the line that washes over and over and it is exactly that. This is the kind of track that transports you to a better place, a warmer place. It’s an all-together lovely experience.

We are told to expect festival dates for the summer whilst, in the meantime, the group are currently putting the finishing touches to their second album, working with legend Stephen Street at Blur’s Damon Albern’s Studio 13, fingers-crossed it’s out in time to be one of THE records of the summer.
