With the days of Sheffield indie-rockers Kartica long gone, ex-frontman Mat Hook made a return to music back in 2022. After a few single releases and sold-out live shows, he’s now ready to kick his career into another gear with ‘Suspended Belief’. Originally released in August 2024, Mat has released it as a double-sided 7″ single, containing two different recordings of the song and really pushing his music to a wider audience.
In terms of quality, ‘Suspended Belief’ shows exactly what Mat Hook is all about. Exquisite vocals. Subtle harmonies that add an extra layer and of course, great musicianship. A guitar riff that bares resemblance to the glory days of Oasis creates a nostalgic buzz, whilst the vocal delivery and poetic lyrics have an aura of Liam Fray about them. The elements come together like a musical stew, combining experience and ability and proving his worth in the current scene. Only his fourth single after a decade-long hiatus, Mat proves that talent is not lost, only stored away.
Receiving praise from highly respected publications such as RadioX and Silver Tongue, Mat Hook is undoubtedly still capable of re-establishing himself in the industry and ‘Suspended Belief’ is just one example of his raw talent. Check out his other releases. Buy his single. Keep your eyes peeled. A great way to announce yourself as a returning force in the industry.
