When Essex and Sheffield meet, what do you get? Well on this occasion, it’s Maximilian Tanner.
Describing his sound, Maximillian says that his music should feel like “Something you should listen to whilst late night driving, with the roof down, under streetlights”.
Well with that, I’m listening at dusk, in my room, that’s close enough right?
The very beginning of the track is giving 80’s instrumental, but that said, I can definitely feel the synth element of Maximillians music, it feels like he jumped back into the 80’s and pulled back a synth keyboard and went to town on it, with a slightly modern twist.
The use of echo on the vocals are interesting and I didn’t really want to like it as I found it like a bit of an out of body experience, but I can’t not like it, it does blend really well with the synth background and it almost has this soundtrack feel to it.
The use of effects adds to it all as well, the vocals are almost ghost-like, but in the best way possible – as they all master together brilliantly.
That said, because of the feel and genre of the track, I did find it difficult to grasp the lyrics, but if it’s meant to add a layer of mysterious to it all, then I’m all for it.
I particularly liked the instrumental solo – it just saw me vibing and bopping my head, I was read to put a sweatband and legwarmers on listening to that alone!
The ending is a bit abrupt I think for the genre, but I was that distracted by the rest of what was going on that I didn’t notice it properly until I listened out for it, it’s a track that settles into the back of your head really easily.
The artwork, like the track, which I believe to be taken at live shows, matches up to the mysteria of it all, particularly with the dark backdrop and violet lights showing merely a silhouette, it’s simply executed, but adds a lot.
To end, it has a really catchy and fun backing track, something that will get you to tap your feet and bob your head or if you’re of an age where the 80’s is where you grew up, maybe some nostalgia with a modern injection to bring you back to earth.
