MORA & the Fabulous Wonderfuls have released their charity single, Bring Me Fire. Full of strong vocals and classic instrumentation, Bring Me Fire has both a brilliant sound and a brilliant cause to support.
The song starts with an arpeggio and a crunchy electric guitar sound. This gives it a punchiness, especially when the rhythmic motif kicks in. This is the typical formula of a timeless rock ballad, making it feel familiar. There is also so much about the song though that feels unique and the sound has the ability to get your feet tapping along.
The vocals in the verses feature a solo voice, and because of the pacing there is space between the lines. This means that you can take in the groove being created by the guitar. This is quite the contrast to the louder sound of the chorus where we hear multiple voices.
There is a subtlety to the verses whilst the chorus demands attention. It feels like a stadium full of people are already singing along thanks to the echoing voices of the several accompanying musicians. These additional voices give the track atmosphere and a richer texture, making it sound big. There is a small amount of breathing space between each vocalisation of ‘Bring Me Fire’. Everytime the line is repeated it is sung with conviction and almost encourages the audience to sing along with its anthemic sound.
As the song winds down to an end, the lyrics become repetitive, singing the title several times. Rather than the full sound we have heard throughout the song though when previously hearing the words ‘Bring Me Fire’ there are just vocals. This really highlights the choral quality of the outro and makes it sound almost haunting. It feels like a satisfying end, finishing with the main hook of the track but in a quieter and more subdued way.
With Bring Me Fire being a charity single, there is a lot of importance to the track. Supporting the work of We Shall Overcome, a homeless charity, it gives the song a layer of significance. As well as being an absolute tune, the song has a great message behind it that we can all get behind.
