Niamh Casey - Fake Friend

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM NIAMH CASEY – FAKE FRIEND

Hailing from Newcastle, soloist Niamh Casey brings us her new single “Fake Friend” – the follow on from “Wicked Tricks” – previously featured on BBC Introducing in the North East.

Upon first impressions, it’s a very soft song with some powerful lyrics, that could sadly be relatable to many – guiding through the ups and downs of friendships, or in this instance, fake friendships.

Niamh has a fantastic vocal range that goes from soft and slumber to this power-anthem voice that will blow your socks off, which is demonstrated in this as it really kicks up a notch around 2 minutes in.

What strikes me most about this song is whilst the production is slick and the vocals are impressive, this could also work really well as a fully acoustic track.

The whole track is relatable, with lyrics such as “I’ve helped you out when you needed a friend, you couldn’t say the same” and “now it’s time to speak the truth, show everyone around us the real you, or are you playing a game?” – this feels like it’s come from a place of experience – and will likely hit home to those going through or have been in that situation.

The key change to soft as we get towards the end is also the perfect tease, before it comes back and bam – back up with the anthem-like power again – this is a real hook.

Overall a very relatable, well-crafted and passionate track with a lot to offer with it’s versatility – very impressed.
