The first thing that hit me with Nico Cann’s new track “Lose My Mind” was the tone of the guitars. The opening Roland Jazz Chorus riff brings such a reflective mood. It feels nostalgic right away, like a memory you didn’t realise you were still holding onto. Then Nico’s voice comes in, the acoustic textures giving space for his vocals to shine and it’s not what I expected at all. It’s got this mix of grit and tenderness that makes you feel every word.
The song looks back on a childhood love, that kind of innocent connection that never fully leaves you. What I really like is how Nico doesn’t over-romanticise it. There’s this bittersweet honesty running through the whole thing. Lines like “Baby go ahead / Cause I don’t care / You make me lose my mind” sound simple at first, but when he sings them, his delivery makes all the difference.

For me, the most memorable part of the song is the chorus. The way he repeats “You make me lose my mind” almost turns it into a mantra, it stays in your head. I actually caught myself humming it later that day, which is always a good sign if you remember the lyrics of a song after only a few listens.
The video fits beautifully too. The shots in black and white emphasise the nostalgic side of the song. There’s something really genuine about it. There is no over-the-top concept, just simple moments with a loved one that are easily relatable.
I also like that the melody doesn’t try too hard to surprise you. It stays steady and that steadiness works. It reminds me a bit of when I first heard Ed Sheeran’s track “Shape of You”. Sometimes a simple melody is exactly what you need to let the lyrics and voice stand out.
Overall, “Lose My Mind” is nostalgic without being too heavy, emotional without being dramatic. It’s just really, genuinely good songwriting, especially for a young singer and I can’t wait to see what’s next for Nico Cann!
