Detroit band November Sky released their newest single Horizon on 4 October. It has elements of early 2000s rock with a slow but consistent tempo. The song was definitely something I was not expecting but it has been on repeat since hearing it the first time!
Being into alternative music myself, I can hear a likeness to The Cure (with the opening to this track), Breaking Benjamin, Basement, and lots more. The band consists of members from Scarlet White, who also released Christian melodic rock music – just like these guys do.
Horizon has a grunge feel to it, opening with a grainy guitar and slow drum beat, progressively getting into the vocals, which are soft and fit the vibe of the song perfectly. With listening to just some of the lyrics there is a clear understanding that this song is about heartbreak, regret, and wanting to forget certain things. As we listen more to the song, the instrumental starts to get heavier and more upbeat with the instruments taking over while the vocals stay the same with small sections becoming louder in the song – this doesn’t take away anything from the song at all.
I really like this song as it finishes on a softer note, just like how it opened. The backing vocals are insanely good too. This song has personality and it’s nice to hear something that captivates everyone’s talent within the band. If you have not heard this song already, get playing it as you might just fall in love with it as much as I have!
