WOW… Manchester’s metalcore scene never fails to amaze the ears. With band’s like Occulent releasing new music, the scene is never dull and full of something different. Hexen is the latest track from Occulent and may I say what a headbanger this track is.
This 5-piece band are electric. Hammering metal into your soul so effortlessly, after hearing Hexen you will be gripped to their fantastic, deep lyrics, thrashing riffs, vigorous bassline, and mesmerising drum beat. This band really know how to nail metal – it’s like it comes naturally to them.
At the start of the song, there is just background noise which sounds like a forest with birds tweeting and an owl hooting, but the band does not leave any time to come in and show off their talents. The vocalist, Lily Holt-Milsom, has some powerful, unmatched vocals within this track. Her voice is almost hypnotising. Not only is she great at the growling and screaming that fits the aesthetic of the song, she also sings during this song which just sounds angelic. Hats off to her, she has done a great job within this track!
The instrumental is astonishing. It goes from being really heavy to becoming more mellowed through out the song, with an ending that just makes you want to listen to this song again and again. The band doesn’t go off track, they stick to the theme of the song and bring that much needed atmospheric metalcore to you. Honestly, this track is just insane. I cannot wait to show it to fellow metalheads and newbies who might just be getting into the scene. It’s the perfect track to also get into Occulent!
