WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM POLA – THE WORLD NEEDS LOVE

Polish-born Pola is a singer-songwriter residing in London, where she’s crafted an impressive artistic reputation. Acclaimed by some of the biggest names in the UK music scene, Pola has performed internationally with the likes of Macy Gray and Andy Summers (The Police), proving that she’s one to watch in contemporary music.

Anticipation is growing for Pola’s debut single, set for release in October, and this month, we got the first taste of what’s to come. The album’s lead single is The World Needs Love, a delicate, poignant track offering a timely perspective on current events.

While the title may feel cliché, the music is anything but. Pola’s soothing blend of pop and trip-hop is instantly immersive. She draws us in with plaintive piano chords and muted electronic drums. Meanwhile, her captivating voice is whole and breathy, wrapped around introspective lyrics about unconditional self-love.

As the song progresses, added compositional elements keep us invested; drum variations mark the border between sections, and atmospheric synths sweep across the sonic backdrop. Towards the end, Pola repeats the phrase open your eyes, which swims in a sea of reverb. It’s almost haunting, in contrast, yet complementing the overall beauty of the track.

The World Needs Love is a song to be sat with and considered. However, it can simply be appreciated for its artistry if you don’t feel like acknowledging the deeper connotations.
