After calling it time at the end of 2025 with October Drift, former October Drift members are back this year with a new project in the form of Rejoicein4K. They’ve taken a completely different approach to their musical style with a sharp shift from shoegaze and grunge blends to chaotic electronic music. ‘Happy People’ emerged from accidental takes and things that made the band laugh. They have reflected that this track has come from several ideas that should’ve been binned.
Well, I for one will be disagreeing with the sentiment and I’m glad it didn’t get binned. The track presents a gritty dirty sound that immediately gets you nodding your head along. The combination of the bass synth and distortion pedals creates a huge wall of sound but despite the chaotic nature of the music, it blends well with the vocals from frontman Kiran Roy who brings determination and attitude.
The chorus features vocals from singer Hannah Thompson which sound great with them being twisted and fed into a sampler. This creates an edgy entity which really brings the chorus to life.
Be ready for the random barking dog noises that feature which was definitely an unexpected touch and shows that enjoyment the band had making what they called “something mad”.
This track is the launch of a new era and something fans should definitely follow along for to see where they go next.
