“A Little Space” – is the newest offering from Royston-based RT Brook – describing it as offering “a bold fusion of electronic soundscapes and hip hop beats that feels both futuristic and grounded in classic rhythm.”
The beginning threw me with that little sound effect, almost a record scratch with a boost – but then all of a sudden this euphoric sound comes in, think that early 2010’s clubland feel, which gave me that instant hook – suddenly I felt 18 again getting ready at pre-drinks for a night of drinking, dancing and god knows what else.
It’s an incredibly easy listen with powerful vocals from Ash, her tone is the perfect compliment to this part of song – RT Brook’s contribution balances it well and gives that great wave that is addictive, in all senses.
It reminds me of being abroad, I could see this being blared out of the speakers in a hot country, like clubbing in Ibiza, and whilst I have resonated with my past self going out – it does bring that modern twist that younger generations love now, something that I find hard to come by nowadays.
In my opinion, it’s too short, but that’s only because I was enjoying it so much, I got a bit of a buzz of a few repeats, and it really is an addictive track.
The production on this is sublime, it’s a easy on the ears, bouncy, fun and enough to get your heart racing in the best way possible.
The artwork isn’t what I expected, but it has the dark colours and shattered heart resonates with the lyrics, which on third listen I picked up, it talks about needing space and not having your heartbroken, it’s subtle but clever and the artwork highlights that well.
Overall, a fantastic track offering a feel of nostalgia, feel-good-like anthem whilst also offering relatable lyrics in a different format (for me at least) – making you forget about your troubles for a while.
Fantastic.
