SAM B-K

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM SAM B-K – THE CHASE

With an upcoming EP entitled ‘Season 1’, Sam B-K takes his first tentative steps into the world of professional music production. As they say, the first step is a doozy, and the first single is certainly something that makes an interesting impression.

Despite being a solo act by trade, Sam B-K does have a backing band for live performances which will lighten the load. But it’s in those moments of solo songwriting and production that we take a look at. The Chase, at its core, is a very simplistic rock anthem with a mixture of working and broken elements.

Starting with the instrumentals. The track has a solid rock track, one that’s full of fast-paced guitar and drums, and even has a pleasant solo to round it all out.

A story of two people meeting in a club, there’s just a description of exactly what’s happened, as if the song was written from a notebook in a steamy club. Couple this with how much the lyrics are repeated over four-and-a-half minutes of runtime, and you can see the cracks emerging fast.

Whilst there’s definitely some talent for music here, especially within the instrumental moments, that’s the best of it. Hopefully the rest of the Season 1 EP will provide a much clearer view of B-K’s vision.
