SAM HAGUE - FINE

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM SAM HAGUE – FINE

An upbeat track with a summer indie feel, “FINE” is a catchy, addictive song that’s captured the hearts of not only Hague’s fans, but managed to launch him to number 1 of the itunes singer songwriters chart.

With a pulsing percussion beat, and indie-pop guitar melody, it makes for an easy, fun listen and Hague’s vocals are really suited to this genre, as he’s explored this nostalgic rock feel with a modern edge, and proven he can flexibly move between rock, indie-pop and folk.

“FINE” captures the excitement that comes with the breaking of summer and the happiness that comes with that – yet we have this juxtaposition of the sadder lyrics. Hague brings in a more emotional side to the seemly happy surface level song by discussing important matters, delving into a more vulnerable side and into ideas such as men’s mental health and how pressurising it can be to always be okay.

There’s this feeling of entrapment within his own feelings as Hague sings “I don’t know how to breathe underwater” and evidently not it’s not only the irresistible sound of the track but his lyricism has related and drawn in many listeners too

Being “FINE” can be a means to an end, to surpass people’s worries or guilt, to bottle up feelings, and Hague described how this song “came out of nowhere” and he managed to just form within him.

This is a record ready for people to play during the summer as well as feeling it on a personal level.
