Sam Scherdel - If We Danced Acoustic

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM SAM SCHERDEL – IF WE DANCED

Dubbed the “South Yorkshire Springsteen” – Sam Scherdel, hailing from Doncaster, has fast been impressing many people up and down the UK and beyond.

The beginning of 2025 saw him release his latest EP – “Meet Me on the Moon” – with a colourful splash of burnt orange donning the moon in the palm of his hand – since then Scherdel has had a string of successful shows and is set to perform at some festivals this year, including hometown festival DonnyFest and Humber Street Sesh in Hull.

“Meet me on the Moon” has been incredibly popular amongst Sam’s fans and having listened to the EP and heard Sam live, it’s easy to see why – Sam has a very charasmatic, charming and raw tone to his music that resonates with many people – so when he decided to release a more intimate version of “If We Danced” – I wasn’t surprised – but I was pleased about it.

If there is something Sam is really good at – it is this style, he’s fantastic anyway, but this softer, acoustic feel really elevates his craft.

The track wastes no time in cracking on with the vocals – with a soft piano instrumental paired with it. – whilst the original version is quite punchy, indie-esque – slowing this down has made this something really special.

The lyrics talks about different elements and stages of life – referencing love and relationships, student life and growing up – something that many people can relate to.

In the middle of the track is a stunning piano solo which breaks up the track beautifully – giving space for Sam to really elevate the track once the singles kick back in.

It doesn’t get too crazy, it won’t – it’s an acoustic track, but it does push the boundaries without losing it’s authentic acoustic flair – something I feel is difficult to do well – but Sam has mastered it.

There are also some gorgeous elements of violin crafted in – it took me a little bit by surprise but it works so well!

The artwork shows a grainy sepia effect showing a bold exit sign in a busy bar or pub – it captures the tone of the track perfectly and gives that raw tone to it – it matches up really well.

Overall a very soft, raw track, with beautiful instrumental elements running through it which shows off what one of Sam’s many talented sides.
