Manchester-based three-piece Sea Breeze are back with their latest single “Nighthawks” – off their upcoming album “UNTITLED” – which is due out later this year and is the follow-up to “Because It’s There.” – their debut album that was released back in 2023.
The band describe themselves as “multi-genre”, throwing in a mix of psychedelia, rock, funk and soul to name a few – which as you can imagine makes quite an odd mix!
Due to this, I didn’t really know what to expect and I thought I was ready, but as promised, this funky guitar piqued my interest in the intro – I wasn’t sure what element to expect but it worked well – gave for a groovy boogie.
I must admit, the instrumental does go on a bit too long for me – and it’s not the longest song in the world, that said, I think it would be the perfect song to intro with or break up a live set, it settles in.
There are very minimal lyrics – primarily “too light, to go out, at night-time” and “lets go!” – which honestly, I expected more.
What I will say, is that Sea Breeze are clearly very talented when it comes to guitar riffs and drum beats, they can certainly provide a good instrumental which is weirdly motivating.
Ultimately though, it is mainly instrumental and for me it needs a bit more, it’s also quite short – so I would have liked to hear a bit longer track with some more psychadelia elements – the talent is evidently there – and looking at their socials, they seem like funky and fun guys – but I need to hear more vocals and more from Sea Breeze and I look forward to doing so!
