A first studio release since their debut LP back in 2023, SENSES have dropped a new single with the title of ‘Accelerate Our Love’. Currently located in Coventry, London and Hamburg, SENSES feel that a shift of location has given them the opportunity to write unconventionally and embrace sonic ambition. Though it is an exciting prospect, I don’t think ‘Accelerate Our Love’ demonstrates this particularly well.
After receiving heavy praise for their debut album, SENSES needed to follow it up with something powerful enough to reignite the hype. Unfortunately, ‘Accelerate Our Love’ doesn’t quite do that for me. Despite creating a fusion of genres, undoubtedly inspired by their respective locations, it all feels a little bit bland. The whole track feels like one really long chorus, with the flow only really changing during a robotic breakdown. The addition of the trumpet actually sounds really nice, however it’s effect is reduced quite significantly due to the general repetitiveness of the song.
Despite the criticism, the direction SENSES want to go in looks promising. The actual chorus sounded pleasant, with simple but effective guitar playing, strong vocals and an overall sense of optimism. Sadly though, ‘Accelerate Our Love’ is pretty one-dimensional and doesn’t see enough of their creative ambition. The keys to the castle are there, they just need to find the way in. This isn’t a complete failure, just a step backwards on the right path. Hopefully their next release captures what SENSES are really all about.
