SHABBAH - (I QUITE) FANCY YOU

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM SHABBAH – (I QUITE) FANCY YOU

Sheffield’s very own SHABBAH generously gift us a very special Valentines Day release with their new single ‘(I Quite) Fancy You’.

Since emerging around 2022, the up-and-coming four-piece have produced a flurry of singles including ’56’, ‘Behave (Yourself)’ and debut song ‘Pub Kid’ just in this last year! This latest offering, the first of 2024, once again sticks to the formula that these lads seem to be perfecting – snappy, short and ever so sweet enough to keep us wanting more.

‘(I Quite) Fancy You’ flies through it’s 2.38 runtime, but that’s not to say there isn’t plenty packed into this little track.
Opening with the clashing crunch of bass and guitars; it almost feels like we’re being counted in – and with that the racing pace soon kicks off. A circling guitar riff is present through out, which while perhaps repetitive, actually keeps the momentum on thundering on and the energy up.
It’s a heady mix of pure rock n roll, indie swagger, a dash of punk and just a sprinkle of funky wah wah pedals thrown in for good measure.

Cheeky and playful lyricism is delivered with an almost Billie Joe Armstrong flavour. And this Green Day comparison is further backed up by some great instances of backing vocal harmonies which add some really nice layers to the track.

“You can’t call me lonely… ‘cause I’ve been asking around”

Definitely moreish and pretty damn perfect to stick on repeat – ‘(I Quite) Fancy You’ is a powerful punch of flirtation from a band with plenty to say and the tunes to back it up… leaving this writer with a bit of a crush actually.
