WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM SHARON WEST

‘Fake’ is the newest single from Doncaster-based Sharon West.

An upbeat hit from the get-go, this track wastes no time getting straight in there with the energy, providing some punchy and relatable lyrics along the way.

I would go as far to say it’s jumped straight out of the clubs of the late 90’s/early 00’s and gives you that feeling of nostalgia whilst still having that modern twist.

It reminds me of a bit of a Clubland-classics in the way the backing track is crafted, the sort of thing you may have heard alongside the likes of Snap! and Urban Cookie Collective.

Sharon’s vocals are incredibly consistent, I imagine it takes a lot of effort to keep that up, as the tempo of the song is electric, and it kept my attention, as I nodded my head along to the beat.

The lyrics talk about the experiences of some friends dating experiences, meeting someone and finding out they’re not who you thought they were.

So if you listen deeper, the lyrics are incredibly relatable, if you haven’t been in that position before, you probably know someone who has – and it’s that sort of craft with songwriting that engages with your audience and leaves them wanting more.

Honestly, my mind didn’t pick up the lyrics immediately as it’s masked by its dance elements, it’s been mixed very well, which, is crucial for something so upbeat, but this is not a bad thing, I was just enjoying myself on first listen.

My only criticism would be, and this is just my opinion, whilst 3 minutes is a good length generally, I find it too long for a dance track, and it could have been 10/20 seconds shorter for me, I like dance tracks short and sweet, of course there are exceptions to the rule, but, that’s just my personal preference.

Overall, ‘Fake’ is a very well-crafted track that could pave the way for more with Sharon and I look forward to see what else she comes up with.
