SOFIA GOBBI

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM SOFIA GOBBI – GAME

Sofia Gobbi’s latest single, Game, doesn’t just dip its toes in the waters of indie-pop — it cannonballs in with the attitude of someone who knows exactly what the fuck they’re doing. This isn’t a polite introduction. It’s a high-kick to the chest.

You can hear from the first drum beat and riff that this isn’t some bedroom pop doodle.

The production’s tight, radio-ready but still raw enough to avoid the dreaded sellout sheen. There’s a swagger in the guitars, a throb of confidence in the rhythm section, and Sofia’s vocals punch right through the mix like a sharp elbow in a crowd. She’s not trying to fit in with the current wave of beige alt-pop here.

Lyrically, Game is ballsy without tipping into cringe, which is no small feat. The hook — infectious as hell — isn’t just catchy, it’s defiant. It screams “I know what I want, and fuck playing coy.” There’s that dry wit in the writing too, something that feels distinctly London, I’m really enjoying it.

That said, there’s a sense she’s still figuring out how much chaos to inject into her sound. There’s a raw nerve under the surface – the “I don’t want to live a life of regrets” ethos – but it’s slightly muffled by the sleekness of the production. I can’t help but wonder what this track might’ve sounded like if she let it get a bit uglier.

But look — you can’t knock ambition, and Game is bursting with it. You don’t work with Grammy-nominated producers and aim for the middle. This is a middle finger to playing it safe, and in that sense, it absolutely delivers. The song’s got teeth, charm, and enough momentum to lodge itself firmly in your head for days.

With her debut album around the corner, bring it on.
