WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM SPANGLED – HORIZON’S GLANCE

Quirky Manchester outfit Spangled have had a stellar start to 2024, kicking off with festival announcements, an innovative collab with Pirate studios, and now the release of their second album Always In Colour.

SPANGLED

With nearly 100k Spotify plays on fan-favourite tracks, the highly anticipated release begins this week with the album’s first single Horizon’s Glance. There’s a flippant way about this track from its old-timey Western sound complemented by unserious lyrical idioms, stubbed my toe on the coffin of my early grave/but it’s not worth crying about.

The rhythmic flow of Horizon’s Glance is smooth and laid-back, as the acoustic and electric guitars run parallel in sonic balance, which is nice on the ear. Both equally prominent while not overpowering. Going into the chorus, effective drums accent the vocal hook, I felt better at Horizon’s Glance/knowing this may be my final chance. Each part marries together to create curious atmosphere.

Later on, we’re met with a bridge section repeating the song’s title. The backing progression uses a pleasant mix of major and minor tonalities, which peak and trough to emphasise the track’s attention-grabbing changes.

Horizon’s Glance is the perfect song to ease us into the Spring season, marking an exciting new chapter for Spangled.
