Former Institutes frontman, Reid Currie, is back with a bang with his new project Standard Sound Project who have just released their second single Forever Now which is an indie-pop classic tune that you will not be able to get enough of!
The Coventry band have featured on BBC Music Introducing, highlighting the talent these guys hold. With 900 followers on social media, this band deserves all the recognition they can get!
The tune certainly carries those chill vibes throughout the song. It’s all about stepping away whilst staying connected to what is true to you and this song captures healing perfectly with lyrics such as ‘I was shaking at the thought of coming clean, I was praying to the God’s who I don’t believe’.
The melody is consistent whilst the vocals are raw and carry emotion throughout. This really captured my eye as you can hear how much this song means to the band. The backing vocals are light and not too in your face which makes the song sound beautiful. The guitar is one of the more prominent instruments within the song as well as the drums being smooth which also carry the mood within the song. It’s overall vibe is serene, and a song that would be perfect for anyone who is struggling with potential heartbreak in their life.
Within the song, you can hear this kind of shimmering effect which carries the song out and is more elevated at the end of the song. It gives it an 80s video game vibe, which is really cool in itself – I liked this, it gives the song an extra special touch to it. The guitar fades out at the end just as the singer finishes the last lyrics, but I fear the song may have benefitted with a bit more emotion in the singers voice towards the end to give it a bit more oomph within the track.
